How to Clean a Sticky FENDI: A Step-by-Step Guide
All of our neoprene Fendi bags at Iceqwn Closet have been thoroughly cleaned and cared for so you’ll never get a sticky bag from us. That said, it’s common to find a vintage neoprene bag with a stubborn stickiness to it because the rubber coating in neoprene often breaks down after 15-20 years.
If you’ve found yourself with a vintage neoprene bag that’s unwearably sticky, don’t panic. There’s a super easy fix that will get it back to as good as new.
Here’s a video that walks you through each of the steps with written instructions below.
Stickiness Removal
Turn the bag inside out to expose the stickiest part.
Remove the strap, especially if it’s leather.
Wrap any of the leather bits of the bag that can’t be removed such as the inner tag with serial number in saran wrap.
Mix two scoops of Borax into a bucket of warm water and stir until fully dissolved.
Use a hanger or clip to keep the leather serial number out of the bucket of water while it soaks to be on the safer side (see video above for details).
Gently rub the neoprene with a silicone sponge or with your hands to start releasing the sediments.
Repeat the steps with fresh Borax and a clean bucket of warm water until the water begins to be more clear.
NOTE: Keep a careful eye out on the color of the water and if you start to notice the color of the water picking up some dye (i.e. if you have a green bag and start to notice green dye in the water) remove from the bucket immediately and rinse under clean fresh cold water. You want to make sure you’re removing dirt and stickiness not stripping any of the color.Rinse the bag thoroughly under cold water.
Lay out a towel on the floor and roll it up with the bag inside like a burrito to remove excess moisture.
Set the bag out on a drying rack to dry and voilà.
Happy cleaning
